TARA 2026: UPDATED TEST FORMAT & STRUCTURE

The TARA is a computer-based admissions test lasting 120 minutes, divided into three separately timed modules of 40 minutes each. There is no subject-specific content — the test assesses how you reason, solve problems, and communicate under pressure. Here is the format for the TARA for 2026–27 entry:

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving are each scored 1.0–9.0 and reported to one decimal place. The Writing Task is not scored numerically — your full essay is sent directly to Oxford and UCL, where admissions tutors assess it as part of your application. Calculators and dictionaries are NOT permitted. No time can be carried over between modules.
